KAKAMEGA THRASH KITUI COUNTY TO ADVANCE TO THE ROUND OF SIXTEEN

It was a Ken Wandiri show as Kakamega County handed Kitui a 5-1 defeat in the last Pool A football match at the ongoing Kenya Inter-County Sports Association (KICOSCA) games in Meru County, to advance to the knockout stage.

The prolific free scoring striker and current tournament top scorer produced a man of the match performance netting all the five goals and will be relied upon to guide Kakamega to victory in the knockouts tomorrow, Thursday.

Indefatigable Tug of War ladies team brushed off Kericho County opposition to march to the round of sixteen slated for Thursday at Kaaga Girls High School as their male counterparts bade farewell to the tournament after registering losses against Nyandarua and Nairobi Counties in their last two pool matches, which appeared to be the pool of death.

Volleyball ladies booked their ticket to the quarters after a 3-0 whipping of Kiambu, avenging for their male counterparts who lost by a similar margin to Kiambu County.

In other games, Kakamega defeated Nyandarua and Uasin Gishu 2-0 and 3-0 respectively in Table Tennis as the Newton Muchiti led Darts squad also advanced to the knockouts after a 5-0 demolition of Kisii County. They play Uasin Gishu at Meru Cultural Centre tomorrow, Thursday. In Netball, the match between Kakamega and Homabay, arguably the final before the final, is yet to be decided after Kakamega launched an appeal citing fielding of ineligible players by their opponents.

Ajua team captained by Chris Musando, fielding the experienced Saidi Watako, also proceeded to the quarter finals after eliminating Uasin Gishu, Embu and Mombasa Counties. They will meet West Pokot County in the quarters.

Despite finishing in positions 3 and 4 respectively, Badminton and Golf teams bowed out of the medal contention bracket but picked up lots of positives from this year’s edition. Kelvin Munoko and Dr James Akhonya captained the two teams in that order.

Kakamega choir team was not left behind as their set pieces and own composition performances pierced through the hearts of music lovers receiving a standing ovation and applause from the audience at Meru Training College.

Athletics and track events will commence tomorrow at Kinoru Stadium.

CECM for Public Service and Administration Mr Lawrence Omuhaka and Chief Officer for Sports Mr Joseph Abucheri among other County staff were instrumental in cheering the Green Jewel ambassadors.
