The Green Climate Fund project, implemented by FAO, is a game-changer for agriculture in the Lake Region Economic Bloc.
The 6-year, KSh 6.4B initiative co-funded by the Danish Govt & GoK through FloCCA, aims to boost productivity, build climate resilience & drive sustainabilityβaligned with Governor Barasaβs food security agenda.
CECM Agriculture Mr Mophat Mandela led the county in hosting the FAO team, with the project in its inception phase. It is set to transform 3 key value chains in the county: coffee, poultry & African leafy veggies.
Mr. Mandela pledged the department’s full support to ensure its success, noting its promising impact. The meeting was attended by key county officials including Water CECM, Ms Peninah Mukabane, emphasizing local ownership, interdepartmental coordination and collaboration for effective implementation
The project is set to kick off in September 2025. Also present were Chief Officers; Mr Emmanuel Kariuki, Agriculture, Ms Jessica Weku, Livestock, CPA Bill Silingi, Ag Environment & Cooperatives, Ms Faith Gitira, Trade and Dr Barack Otieno, Donor relations.
