KAKAMEGA OPEN GRAND PRIX CHESS TOURNMENT KICKS OFF
The Kakamega Open Grand Prix Chess Tournament was officially opened on Saturday by the CECM for Social Services, Sports, Youths, Gender and Culture Ms. Jackline Masicha at Golf Hotel, Kakamega.
Organized by the Kakamega County Chess Association, the event has drawn several schools, including Chavakali High, Mukumu Boys, Shikoti Girls, St. Francis Xavier Shikoti Mixed, Bulupi Secondary, and Borstal School Shikusa.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ms Masicha commended the initiative for nurturing talent, discipline and strategic thinking, urging participants to compete with integrity and sportsmanship. Chess Kenya Federation President Benard Wanjala commended the growing popularity of chess in the region, expressing confidence the tournament will produce future champions.
