GOVERNOR BARASA HOSTS ASK OFFICIALS AS COUNTY PREPARES FOR 2026 SHOW
H.E. Dr. Fernandes Barasa, FCPA, OGW, on Thursday morning held a consultative meeting with officials from the Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK), Western Kenya Branch, led by Chairperson Dr. Purity Anyanje, at the Governorβs Boardroom to deliberate on planning and preparedness of the forthcoming Kakamega ASK Show scheduled for 10th to 13th June 2026 at the ASK Moi Showground in Kakamega Town.
Governor Barasa, who also serves as the County Patron of the Society, is expected to officially preside over the opening ceremony on 12th June 2026. The annual exhibition will be held under the theme: βPromoting Climate Smart Agriculture and Trade Initiatives for Sustainable Economic Growth.β
Speaking during the meeting, Governor Barasa highlighted his administrationβs focus on revitalizing the agricultural sector through the adoption of innovative and climate-smart farming technologies aimed at enhancing food security, increasing value addition and improving household incomes for farmers across the county. The Governor emphasized that agriculture remains the backbone of Kakamega Countyβs economy and called for strengthened collaboration between government agencies, development partners and stakeholders in empowering farmers with modern knowledge, technology and sustainable production practices.
The Governor further noted that previous ASK exhibitions have continued to position Kakamega County as a regional hub for agricultural innovation, investment and trade promotion in Western Kenya. More than 200 exhibitors drawn from across the country are expected to participate in this yearβs event, showcasing emerging technologies, modern farming methods, agribusiness solutions and climate-resilient agricultural initiatives.ASK officials commended Governor Barasa for his continued support towards the Society and his dedication to advancing agricultural transformation and economic empowerment within the county.
Governor Barasa also announced plans to organize a special Farmersβ Day at the ASK grounds as part of efforts to directly engage farmers, disseminate agricultural information and encourage the adoption of best farming practices. The Governor has in recent years spearheaded similar outreach forums across different parts of the county, with the most recent farmersβ field day having been held in Lumakanda, Lugari Sub-County, earlier this month.
