This morning, H.E. Governor FCPA Fernandes Barasa joined the faithful for a service at Akatsa SDA Church before commissioning the Akatsa SDA Solarised Water Project in Idakho North, Ikolomani Sub-County.
Implemented through a partnership between the County Government and the Seventh-day Adventist Church, the project, with a capacity of 50,000 litres per day, will serve more than 500 neighbouring households.
Under the Amatsi Khumuliango last-mile connectivity program, the County is prioritising household and institutional connections to ensure direct benefits from government water sources.
The solar-powered project offers a sustainable and cost-effective water supply. By harnessing renewable energy, it guarantees consistency while reducing reliance on electricity, making safe water accessible even in remote areas.
Governor Barasa lauded the partnership with the SDA Church, noting that such collaborations are vital in driving grassroots development. He emphasised that the County’s focus on household connectivities will ease the burden of water access, improve health standards, and uplift livelihoods across the community.
The Governor also pointed out that across Ikolomani Sub-County, several other water projects are already changing lives. In Idakho South, the Kilingili Water Project is set to serve 2,000 households and public institutions. In Idakho Central, the protection of four springs benefiting 200 households has been completed, while in Idakho East, the Mpaka Water Project is currently serving over 100 households alongside the completed Makhokho Water Project. In Idakho North, both the Mwikhomo and Shanabunga Water Projects have also been finalised, further boosting access to clean water.
These interventions demonstrate Governor Barasa’s commitment to expanding access to clean and safe water, a key pillar in improving the quality of life for Kakamega residents.
Present were MCAs led by Majority Leader Hon. Philip Maina and host Hon. Gladys Mukongolo, together with the Executive and Administration.
