CECM WATER OPENS CLIMATE CHANGE PARTICIPATORY SCENARIO PLANNING WORKSHOP

Today Morning, the CECM for Water, Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change, Ms. Penina Mukabane, officially opened the Participatory Scenario Planning (PSP) workshop at Bukura Agricultural Training Centre to plan for possible mitigation to manage the impact of the heavy rainfall this season. Forecasts have indicated that we will have heavy rainfall, thus there’s a possibility of destruction of basic infrastructure.
The County government of Kakamega is actively engaged in the Financing of Locally led Climate Action program (FLLoCa), a program through which Governor Barasa’s administration is implementing community-driven initiatives to enhance resilience in the face of extreme climate conditions. This programme is sponsored by the World bank, the Government of Kenya, DANIDA, SIDA, KFW and the County governments.
In her keynote address, Ms. Mukabane welcomed participants, emphasizing the importance of public participation prior to implementing undertakings of public good. She said that there are anticipated changes in the weather patterns for the upcoming *March-April-May* (MAM) 2026 season, which pose significant climate risks to residents of Kakamega County, thus the need for a discussion on how to avert the possible challenges that the rain may cause.
Present were County directors from Water, Public Health, Agriculture and environment officers.
