COUNTY STEPS UP AGRICULTURAL EMPOWERMENT THROUGH CLIMATE-SMART FARMING

The Bukura ATC Stakeholders Forum Field Day was held today under the theme “Promoting Climate Smart Agriculture and Trade Initiatives for Sustainable Economic Growth;” bringing together farmers, leaders and stakeholders with a shared focus on transforming agriculture.
The day began with field visits that provided practical learning experiences and showcased Bukura’s commitment to nurturing upcoming farmers while giving them an opportunity to explore and grow in modern farming.
Speaking during the event, the Chief Guest, CECM, Agriculture Mophat Mandela, noted that Bukura was established to uplift farmers and has continued to grow through key milestones such as the establishment of a board and the passing of the Bukura Act to ensure that funds generated within the institution are retained to support its development.
He emphasized the need for collaboration, particularly in promoting soil learning, so that farmers can gain more knowledge and improve productivity, alongside being equipped with essential inputs such as quality seeds.
He, further, highlighted ongoing county initiatives aimed at supporting farmers and strengthening agricultural development, noting that subsidized fertilizer for both planting and top dressing is now available at ward stores.
Poultry farmers were also encouraged to take advantage of the hatchery in Butere, with plans underway to ensure chicks are distributed to farmers across all wards through their respective administrators.
The forum was also attended by Chief Officer for Cooperatives, Mr. Anselm Mulinya, Hon. Gildon Opati Shioso, MCA for Butsotso South, and Bukura ATC Principal, Ms. Christabel Makari Isanda, among other senior officials.
