GOVERNOR BARASA ROLLS OUT TOP-DRESSING FERTILISER PROGRAMME TO BOOST FOOD SECURITY.

Kakamega County, widely known as the country’s food basket, depends heavily on agriculture as the main source of livelihood and a key focus of H.E Governor Dr. Fernandes Barasa’s agenda on Food Security and Wealth Creation. The County Government continues to put in place practical measures to increase farm production and improve the lives of farmers.

As part of these efforts, Governor Barasa today officially launched the countywide distribution of free top-dressing fertiliser at Buchifi market in Etenje Ward, Mumias West Sub-County. The programme is part of a wider county plan to help farmers cope with the high cost of farm inputs and to increase crop yields.

The initiative is designed to empower low-income families by boosting farm productivity, enabling them not only to meet their household food needs but also to generate surplus for income.

Speaking during the exercise, the Governor said his administration is committed to supporting farmers through the timely supply of farm inputs, extension services, and better farming methods. He noted that access to subsidised fertiliser will help increase food production and raise household incomes.

He added that the distribution of free farm inputs remains a key part of the County Government’s broader agenda to strengthen food security and build a more resilient agricultural sector across Kakamega County.

The fertiliser distribution programme is expected to benefit thousands of farmers across Kakamega County, supporting the county’s goal of achieving food security and growing the economy through agriculture.

The Governor was accompanied by Members of the County Executive Committee, led by Mr. Mophat Mandela of Agriculture.
