KAKAMEGA LADIES CLINCH KETWA CITY TOURNAMENT TITLE AS GSU MEN EMERGE CHAMPIONS
The 10th Leg City Tournament organized by the Kenya Tug of War Association concluded yesterday after four days of thrilling competition that began on June 18, bringing together top tug-of-war teams from across the country.
The tournament provided a platform for athletes to showcase their strength, teamwork, and competitive spirit while promoting sports development and nurturing talent.
Kakamega County Ladies emerged as overall champions in the women’s category after an outstanding performance, collecting a maximum of 15 points. The team secured victories over teams from Nyandarua County, Vihiga County, Kisumu County, Busia County, and Siaya County, earning three points in each match to seal the title.
In the men’s category, the General Service Unit (GSU) were crowned champions after displaying exceptional strength and consistency throughout the tournament. Kakamega County Men finished fifth overall, with their notable victory coming against Vihiga, where they earned three valuable points.
On behalf of H.E. FCPA Dr. Fernandes Barasa, Deputy Governor Ayub Savula flagged off the final day of the tournament. Speaking during the event, Hon. Savula reaffirmed the County Government’s commitment to supporting sports as a key avenue for youth empowerment, talent development, and social cohesion.
He congratulated the winning teams and commended all participants for their dedication, discipline, and resilience throughout the competition. He further urged athletes to continue upholding teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship both on and off the field.
The tournament attracted teams from the General Service Unit, Kenya Defence Forces, Kenya Prisons Service, and county teams from Kakamega, Siaya, Nyandarua, Kisumu, Busia, and Vihiga.
Also present were KETWA Organising Secretary Mr. Patrick Omollo, Director of Security Kakamega Mr. John Otido, alongside team officials, coaches, and sports stakeholders.
The successful hosting of the tournament underscored Kakamega County’s growing reputation as a sporting hub and highlighted the County Government’s continued investment in nurturing talent and promoting sports excellence.
