KAKAMEGA REVIEWS DISC SELF-INJECTABLE FAMILY PLANNING PROGRESS
County Government of Kakamega, through the Department of Health services held an Annual Review and Cross-Learning Meeting on the Delivering Innovation in Self-Care (DISC) intervention aimed at strengthening access to and uptake of self-injectable family planning methods.
The DISC intervention focuses on creating awareness of self-injectable contraceptive methods and empowering women to independently access and administer their preferred family planning method, with appropriate guidance and support from healthcare providers.
Director of Medical Services Dr. Stephen Wandei stated that the DISC intervention will enable the County to contribute towards meeting its Every Woman, Every Newborn, Everywhere (EWENE) targets through self-injection, while supporting Governor Fernandes Barasaβs quality healthcare pillar, which seeks to strengthen access to quality and affordable healthcare services for residents.
Through the supply of self-injectable contraceptive methods, the DISC intervention is helping mothers save time and reduce costs associated with travelling to health facilities for routine family planning services. Women who are trained and eligible to self-administer the method can manage their contraception at home, reducing unnecessary facility visits.
The approach also promotes greater autonomy among women by enabling them to take an active role in managing their reproductive health and family planning needs.
The meeting provided an opportunity for stakeholders to review progress, share experiences and lessons learnt from implementation, identify challenges and explore strategies for strengthening the delivery of self-care family planning services in Kakamega County.
inSupply Health Team led by Ms. Bernice Undisa committed to continuously support Representative Health Services in Kakamega County in accordance with Governor Fernandes Barasa’s Quality Health care pillar especially in the Reproductive Health sector.
Present was the County Reproductive Health Coordinator Ms. Beverly Wambani, Nairobi County Reproductive Health Coordinator Ms. Robinna Anene, Jacaranda Health team led by Ms. Janet Ogoyo.
