H.E. Dr. FCPA Fernandes Barasa, OGW, has commissioned the newly completed Nderema ECDE Centre at Nderema Comprehensive School in Bunyala West Ward, Navakholo Sub-County, as his administration continues to invest in quality learning environments for children across Kakamega County.
Speaking during the ceremony, Governor Barasa said early childhood education, as a devolved function, remains a priority for his administration as the County Government continues to invest in quality learning environments for the youngest learners.
The new Nderema ECDE Centre, like the other 61 ECDE projects being delivered across the county, features two classrooms, teachersβ office, a kitchen, Water tank and sanitation facilities, providing young learners with a safe, child-friendly and conducive environment to learn and grow.
In Navakholo Sub-County, other ECDE centres at Shibembe, Sirigoi, Lwakhupa, Matiha and Lutaso are at various stages of completion, further expanding access to better learning facilities for children across the sub-county.
Governor Barasa also highlighted ongoing investments in Navakholo, including the Buheri Water Project, healthcare and road infrastructure. He further noted plans to upgrade Navakholo Level IV Hospital, including the construction of a new 60-bed maternity wing, to strengthen healthcare services for residents.
He was accompanied by Bunyala West Ward MCA Hon. Sebastian Mangβeni, CECM for Education Dr. Benard Amwayi, CECM for Water Mrs. Peninah Mukabane, Members of the County Assembly, county officials and other local leaders.
