COUNTY GOVERNMENT PARTNERS WITH MVIRINGO TO EMPOWER 144 WOMEN LEADERS
The County Government of Kakamega has partnered with Mviringo, a women-led organisation, to strengthen the leadership and entrepreneurial skills of 144 women leaders drawn from across the county. The training, taking place in Kakamega through the Department of Social Services, focuses on entrepreneurship, financial management and effective administration of women’s groups. The initiative aims to equip participants with practical skills to manage their groups, grow their businesses and create sustainable income-generating opportunities within their communities.
The training was officially opened by the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Social Services, Youth, Gender, Culture and Library Services, CPA Jackline Masicha, who emphasised the importance of strong leadership and proper management of women’s groups. She urged participants to embrace accountability, use group resources wisely and explore viable business opportunities that can improve the welfare of their members. She noted that well-managed groups are better placed to support their members and contribute to the economic development of their communities.
Ms. Masicha noted that the initiative complements the county’s social development agenda and the recent disbursement of KSh 60 million to 1,200 groups across Kakamega County. She emphasised that financial support must go hand in hand with practical skills in business management, financial planning and accountability to ensure that the groups make proper use of the funds. She added that equipping women with the right knowledge and skills would help them grow their businesses, improve household incomes and contribute to economic development in their communities.
Through the partnership, the County Government and Mviringo seek to strengthen women’s groups by promoting effective leadership, financial discipline and business growth.
Ms. Masicha was accompanied by the Chief Officer for Social Services, Gender and Culture, Ms. Christine Oside, and the Director for Social Services and Gender, Ms. Joyce Wafukho, alongside representatives of partner organisations and county officers.
