COUNTY, TIKO PARTNER TO SUPPORT SGBV VICTIMS IN KAKAMEGA.

The County Government of Kakamega, through the Department of Health Services, has held discussions with Tiko on a proposed partnership to strengthen support for survivors of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) at Shinyalu and Chekalini safe houses in Shinyalu and Lugari sub-counties, respectively.

Speaking during the meeting, Chief Officer for Public Health, Mrs. Rose Muhanda, welcomed the proposed partnership, which seeks to improve the safety, welfare and care of survivors residing in the two safe houses.

The proposed interventions include providing clean bedding, enhancing security, supplying food items, improving staffing and facilitating access to medical services and safe house mothers to ensure survivors receive appropriate care and support.

Chief Officer for Gender, Mrs. Christine Oside, pledged to provide social support services, including the deployment of social services officers to ensure round-the-clock assistance to survivors at the facilities.

The Tiko team committed to provide technical and financial support to strengthen the operations of the safe houses and improve access to essential services for survivors of gender-based violence.

The proposed collaboration seeks to enhance the protection, dignity and well-being of survivors while strengthening Kakamega County’s response to sexual and gender-based violence.
