KENYA MEDICAL TRAINING COLLEGE LUGARI BRANCH SET FOR ITS SECOND INTAKE
The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) has continued to expand its branches in Kakamega County following a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Government and KMTC for the expansion of the medical training institutions to various Sub-Counties in the county.
KMTC Board of Trustees Chairman Prof. Philip Kaloki was today in Navakholo and Lugari Sub-Counties for site viewing of the medical training institutions that are both almost into their second yearsβ of intake. Prof. Kaloki noted with satisfaction the immense efforts that the county government has put in place to ensure a trained and skillful health workforce within the countyβs medical facilities.
Health Services CECM Penina Mukabane thanked Prof. Philip Kaloki for his commitment in ensuring the MoU is fully implemented terming it a step in the right direction, towards fulfilling her ministryβs vision of ensuring residents are well attended to through proper access to health education. The CECM called on students from Kakamega County who qualify for the courses to apply in numbers adding that 30% of the slots are preserved for applicants who hail from the county. She expressed her concern on the low number of professionals in the medical field as compared to the number of patients in need of health services in the whole county.
Later on Mrs. Mukabane paid a surprise visit to Lugari Hospital which is among the largest health facilities in the sub county to check on the quality of health services and how patients are accessing services at the facility.
