TRAINING OF COUNTY REVENUE CLERKS COMMENCES
The County Government of Kakamega has commenced training of county cashless revenue clerks following a successful recruitment process carried out in each of the 60 wards.
H.E. Governor Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya who officiated the event congratulated the clerks for the opportunity to serve the government in their capacity as revenue collection agents. The Governor called for their dedication as they will be required to meet certainΒ targets as they carry out their responsibilities with an aim of enhancing revenue collection in the county. “The revenue you have been tasked to collect will go a long way in providing essential services to our people hence the need to be fully committed to the task,” he said.
The Governor observed that Kakamega has in the past years missed revenue targets due to manual systems among other factors. The requirement by the Commission on Revenue Allocatiom for a county to qualify for a share of revenues collected is pegged to capability to collect a minimum of Sh.1 billion. Governor Oparanya said creation of Kakamega County Revenue Collection Agency -an equivalent of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), in operations – is expected to enhance collection of revenue in the county.
Deputy Governor H.E. Prof. Philip Museve Kutima said the recruits should live up to the expectations of the county government in regard to revenue collection. He called on them to be hardworking, exercise honesty and positively present the government’s image to the public. The Governor and his entourage also used the opportunity to inspect the Bukura Smart Dairy Farm a project by the county government, under the Kakamega County Dairy Development Corporation (KDDC), that seeks to upgrade the dairy industry in the county.
In attendance was Chief Officer Finance John Imbogo, his counterparts in Planning and Agriculture, Cooperatives and Irrigation dockets Lawrence Omuhaka and Jeremiah Namunyu respectively, Head of Service Delivery Unit Amb. Ochami, Director of ICT and e-Government Samwel Wetungu, Chief of Staff Robert Sumbi, Advisors in the Office of the Governor Musa Chibole, Paul Posho and Peninah Mukabane, County Ombudsman Edward Indimuli, Chairperson Kakamega County Revenue Collection Agency Winfred Wakoli and Bukura ATC Deputy Principal Christabel Isanda, among others.
