COUNTY RECEIVES SECOND CONSIGNMENT OF DRUGS
Kakamega County has today received it’s second batch of drugs in a period of three weeks from the Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (Kemsa) bringing the total cost of drugs supplied in the county, in this quarter, to over Ksh. 60 million.
Today’s batch included drugs for the Kakamega County General hospital valued at over Ksh. 7m. Chief Officer Medical Services Dr. Beatrice Etemesi who was on site expressed her delight on the supply ofย the drugs and encouraged patients from Kakamega county and beyond to continue seeking services from government health facilities across the county. Dr. Etemesi however called on Kemsa to be timely with delivery of the drugs so as to meet the needs of patients in the county. She cited lengthy government processes as the cause of delays witnessed in disbursement of the supplies to counties.
Kakamega County General hospital Ag. Medical Superintendent Dr. Dixon Muchana said the hospital has posted a steady increase in the number of referral cases due to the availability of important medical equipment at the facility. The hospital’s Chief Pharmacist Dr. Michael Watamba said the drugs are expected to serve the county for a period of three months. Kemsa supplies drugs in Kakamega county on a quarterly basis.
