POMP AND COLOUR AS KAKAMEGA COUNTY MARKS JAMHURI DAY

Kakamega county joined the nation today in marking the 56th Jamhuri Day in style. The ceremony held at Bukhungu Stadium was awash with exciting displays and presentations including immaculate parade by disciplined forces, Isikuti dance, choirs and poems.

The guest of honour, Kakamega governor H.E. Hon. Wycliffe Oparanya delivered his keynote address while the Deputy County Commissioner Dennis Ogolla read the president’s speech.

In his speech, the governor encouraged farmers to embrace diversified agricultural production to boost food security, create more jobs through agri-based industries and improve nutrition.

The governor assured the public that the County government was committed to plans to revive Mumias Sugar Company and complete major flagship projects including Phase 2 of Bukhungu Stadium, phase 1 of Kakamega Teaching and Referral hospital, two Level 4 hospitals and dairy and tea processing plants.

Governor Oparanya reiterated that he will have a meeting with the Kakamega leaders to discuss issues concerning Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report.

“The BBI taskforce report needs some changes to serve the aspirations of the common mwananchi in terms of good governance and inclusivity,” the County boss said.

In attendance were the first lady H.E. Mama Priscillah Ambetsa Oparanya, deputy governor H.E Prof Philip Museve Kutima, County Assembly Speaker, Hon. Morris Buluma, CECM for Public Service and Administration, Dr. Beatrice Sabana, Deputy Speaker Hon. Leonard Kasaya, leader of majority Hon. Joel Ongoro, minority leader Hon. David Ndakwa, MP for Lugari, Hon. Ayub Savula, CECMs, Chief Officers, County Secretary and Head of Public Service Madam Jacinta Aluoch Odhiambo, deputy CS Mr. Joshua Kutekha, County Attorney Moses Sande, Chief of Staff Mr Robert Sumbi, among many senior County and National government officials.
