GOVERNOR OPARANYA PRESIDES OVER PEACE FETE IN NANDI COUNTY

Kakamega County Governor H.E. Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya on Monday led celebrations to mark the International Peace Day at Tabolwa secondary school along the Kakamega-Nandi border Nandi county.

The National event coincided with the signing of a Peace Deal between communities living along the common border and who have engaged in conflicts over land that has resulted in loss of lives and property. The peace deal was brokered by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) and other partners.

Governors; H.E Dr Wilber Ottichilo, H.E Prof Paul Chepwony accompanied the CoG Chair as well as the host County boss H.E Stephen Sang.

Kakamega deputy governor H.E Prof Philip Kutima, his Kisumu and Nandi counterparts were present.

Meanwhile, County First Lady H.E Priscillah Oparanya presided over a similar event at Buchenya Girls in Butere Sub County where she called on politicians to refrain from inciting the public and making heightened political statements.

The First Lady who urged the youth to avoid being used as agents of violence said the recent political developments in the country are a threat to the fragile national social fabric.

The Butere event was attended by several other leaders among them the Executive Director of Universal Peace Federation Fredrick Wakhisi and the area Sub County Administrator Madam Joyce Wakhisi.
