COUNTY, USAID-KIWASH SIGN A SH65 MILLION JOINT WORKPLAN

Kakamega County Executive Member for Water, Environment and Natural Resources Mr. Kulati Wangia on 23rd dec. 2020 signed a joint work plan between the County Government of Kakamega and USAID-Kenya Integrated Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Projects (KIWASH) to facilitate water and sanitation programmes in institutions, train Healthcare volunteers and to strengthen rural water supplies among other projects within Kakamega County.

Mr. Wangia expressed his gratitude to the partner for the support saying the programmes will help in mitigation of the Covid-19 pandemic especially in learning institutions and health facilities.

“We will carry out extensive mapping and involve the public so as to understand their needs and establish the gaps on the ground. By doing that, we will be able to add value to the community,” he said.

Chief Officer for Water Eng Joseck Maloba said the programme addreses very critical areas during this Covid-19 period. Part of the money, he added, will be channelled to purchase and installation of hygiene equipment in 30 schools before re-opening of learning institutions in the country.

USAID-KIWASH WASH Governor’s Specialist Kakamega County Jacob Achola, assured Kakamega County of the organization’s support and promised to work closely with the County towards sustainability of the projects to improve service delivery. The team will be reporting on a monthly basis on the status of the one year projects.

Mr. Achola was accompanied with Kakamega County Sanitation and Hygiene Specialist Madam Roselyne Okwiri.
