EARLY CHRISTMAS GIFT TO KAKAMEGA COUNTY FARMERS

Farmers in Kakamega County under the Kenya Climate Smart Agricultural Program (KCSAP) on Tuesday afternoon received a Shs123,641,571 million Christmas gift from Kakamega Governor H.E DR. FCPA Wycliffe Oparanya to enhance food security in the County.Governor Oparanya presented the cheque to representatives of the farmers at the County Headquarters during Christmas Tree Lighting event where he appreciated World Bank, a County Government development partner, for supporting some of the County’s projects.The grant will be distributed to 144 KCSAP beneficiary groups in Lurambi, Navakholo and Malava Sub-Counties in Dairy, Poultry, Fish and Indigeneous vegetables value chains.”KCSAP project has come in handy to boost our food production that has been affected by climate change,” he noted.The event saw Governor Oparanya distribute 10,000 chicks to farmers from six Sub-Counties; Navakholo, Mumias East, Mumias West, Matungu, Butere and Khwisero, under the County Government sponsored farm subsidy programme. In addition, 10 Agricultural officers from Lugari and Likuyani received a Motorcycle each to enhance extension services in the two Sub-Counties.Dr. Oparanya also distributed food and non-food items to the less priviledged residents including homes for the needy.In attendance were Kakamega County Assembly Majority Leader Hon. Joel Ongoro, CECMs, County Secretary and Head of Public Service Madam Jacinta Aluoch and Chief Officers among other senior officers from both levels of Government.
