SCOUT FOR PLAYERS FROM THE GRASSROOTS – FKF TOLD

Kakamega County CECM for Social Services, Youth, Women Empowerment, Sports and Culture Mr. Kassim Were has advised the National Team Scouts to consider visiting sports clubs at the grassroots during selection of players to represent the National team.

Mr. Were was speaking when he hosted a delegation from a betting firm, Sportpesa Tuesday morning in his office at the Bukhungu International Stadium, where he said selection of players to represent the county has to be based on merit.

“To feed the National team with the right players in terms of physique, talent and attitude, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and local Kenya Premier League clubs should send scouts to the remote areas of Kakamega County and other rural Counties across the Country; where very enterprising and talented players who only need exposure to fly the name of our Country high are located,” he said.

The CECM said through the devolved governance, construction of five Government funded mini-stadia across the County is on course thanks to the great leadership of Kenya’s vision 2030 planner H.E Dr. FCPA Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya, terming Kakamega the home of sports that requires a lot of talent tapping.

He revealed that the County is seeking for partnership with local or international companies to take up the overall branding of Bukhungu Stadium.

Head of PR and Marketing at Sportpesa Mr. Louis Kalinga said the company is currently involved in donation of kits under the ‘Kits for Africa’ programme that targets football teams at the grassroot level.

In attendance were Mr. James Muchiri the County Sports Director, Mr. Edward Odera the Stadium Manager, Madam Roya Okanga from Sportpesa among other Officers.
