CHIEF OFFICER FOR URBAN DEVELOPMENT INSPECTS MARKETS

The Chief Officer for Housing and Urban Development, Ms. Faith Gitira, on Thursday, inspected Kakamega County Municipal Market to assess ongoing expansion efforts, aimed at improving standards and accommodating more traders.

She emphasized the County Government’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for trade, in line with Governor Fernandes Barasa’s Wealth Creation aspiration for the residents of Kakamega County. She also provided a clear roadmap to address challenges at the market, notably, electrification and drainage.

Later, Ms. Gitira visited Khayega Market, to deliberate land acquisition with the market’s stakeholders, in order to relocate traders away from the roadside for their safety, in accordance with a recent KENHA safety recommendation. She tasked the stakeholders to identify strategic public and private land for market expansion and relocation of roadside open-air traders.
