COUNTY ASSEMBLY TRADE COMMITTEE SCRUTINIZES KAKAMEGA MICROFINANCE CORPORATION DRAFT BILL

Members of the Kakamega County Assembly Trade Committee chaired by Hon. Benard Omboko on Thursday scrutinized the Kakamega County Microfinance Corporation Bill, 2026; which is set to establish a stronger legal, governance and financial management framework at the Corporation.

Speaking during the exercise, the CECM for Trade, Industrialization and Tourism Mr. Godfrey Owori said if ratified, the Bill will improve services offered by the entity, enhance management of county resources and provide efficient ways of operation, similar to a banking system.

Chairperson of the Trade Committee Hon. Benard Omboko said the committee will submit recommendations after deliberations, sentiments that were echoed by his countepart at the Legal Affairs Committee Hon. Silas Shihenji

County Attorney CS Vivian Mmbaka took the participants through the draft Bill that seeks to facilitate sustainable access to affordable financial products and enterprise development services for micro, small and medium enterprises; promote entrepreneurship, investment, job creation and socio-economic development through financial and non-financial support services; promote a savings culture among MSMEs and provide for the governance, administration, regulation and oversight of the corporation.

The Bill will, after scrutiny, proceed to the public participation stage before it is submitted to H.E the Governor for further scrutiny.

Present were Deputy County Secretary CPA Samson Otieno, Chief Officer Ms Faith Gitira, Dr. Phitalis Masakhwe and the incharge Corporation’s CEO Mr. Charles Oranga.
