COUNTY, CHESHIRE DISABILITY, EARC, PARTNER TO CAPACITY BUILD MALE PARENTS ON SUPPORT FOR CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES.
The County Government of Kakamega, through the Department of Health Services, in partnership with Cheshire Disability Kenya and the Education Assessment Resource Center (EARC), has today conducted a capacity-building session aimed at strengthening the role of male parents and mentors in supporting children with disabilities.
The training, which focused on the Care with a Touch (CWAT) and Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) approaches, brought together key focal parents, male Community Health Promoters (CHPs), and members of the local administration. The initiative seeks to promote inclusive caregiving practices and enhance male involvement in the upbringing and support of children with disabilities.
Representing Governor Fernandes Barasa at the meeting, County Disability Mainstreaming Coordinator, Mrs. Faith Owour, emphasized the importance of male engagement in fostering acceptance and inclusion of children with disabilities within society. She noted that increased male participation directly contributes to advancing the Governor’s agenda on quality healthcare and inclusive education.
Cheshire Disability Kenya Program Officer, Ms. Lucy Obiri, commended the county Government for its continued commitment to supporting children with disabilities, particularly through sustained investments in the health and education sectors.
EARC Director, Dr. Sellar Oduor, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to working closely with the county Government to ensure children with disabilities are fully integrated into the community without discrimination or segregation.
The partnership underscores ongoing efforts to strengthen community structures and promote inclusive development across Kakamega County.
