COUNTY, DAMKA, MMUST PARTNER TO LAUNCH SICKLE CELL NEWBORN SCREENING
The County Government of Kakamega, through the Department of Health Services, in partnership with DAMKA and Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), yesterday launched a countywide sickle cell screening program for newborns at Matungu Level 4 Hospital.
Speaking during the launch on behalf of Governor Fernandes Barasa, CECM for Health Services, Dr. Livingston Imbayi, emphasized the importance of early detection of sickle cell disease in identifying affected children and providing timely interventions to support healthier, normal lives.
The DAMKA CEO reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to supporting Kakamega County in both screening and treatment of sickle cell patients, in line with the county’s Quality Healthcare pillar.
Also present were Chief Officer for Public Health, Mrs. Rose Muhanda and Director of Medical Services, Dr. Stephen Wandei among other officials.
