COUNTY, EVIDENCE ACTION SIGN WASH ASSETS HANDOVER IMPLEMENTATION AGREEMENT IN KAKAMEGA

Kakamega County, through the Departments of Health Services and Water, has signed an asset handover implementation agreement with Evidence Action to strengthen access to safe water services under the County’s Quality Healthcare Pillar, in line with the Memorandum of Understanding guiding the implementation of the Safe Water Now Dispensers program.
The agreement comes at a critical time as Evidence Action prepares to conclude its operations in Likuyani and Lugari sub-counties. Under this partnership, the organization will transfer chlorine dispensers in the two sub-counties to the County Government while continuing to provide water point chlorine dispenser optimization support in 10 other sub-counties. This initiative seeks to increase chlorine adoption rates among households, enhancing cost-effectiveness in the provision of safe drinking water in line with Governor Fernandes Barasa’s Amatsi Khumuliango clarion call for clean and safe water for all residents.
As part of its exit plan, the program will gradually phase out in Lugari and Likuyani after building the capacity of County Community Health Promoters on community water source dispensing and training local water artisans on repair and maintenance.
Speaking during the signing, CECM Health Services CPA Livingstone Imbayi and CECM Water, Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change Mrs. Peninah Mukabane reaffirmed the County’s commitment to sustainability, noting that budgetary provisions will be made for the purchase of chlorine to ensure continuity of the service.
The agreement signing was officially overseen by the County Attorney, Mrs. Vivianne Mmbaka.
