County Government of Kakamega Boosts Agribusiness Through Butere Poultry Hatchery.
Aligned with H.E. Governor Fernandes Barasaโs agenda on food security and wealth creation, the recently commissioned Butere Poultry Hatchery is set to empower farmers to turn poultry farming into a thriving enterprise.
Today, Chief Officer for Agriculture, Mr. Emmanuel Kariuki, led the Department of Livestock in issuing 700 day-old chicks to three community groups โ Ebenezer Lubanga Disabled Group in Matungu, Abalbao Women Group, and Emusaka Youth Bunge Group in Butere Sub-county.
The solar-powered hatchery targets to hatch between 12,000 and 100,000 eggs weekly, with chicks distributed free of charge to eligible groups vetted by ward-level committees across the county. This initiative underscores the Countyโs commitment to empowering farmers, enhancing livelihoods, and advancing Kakamegaโs agricultural transformation.
