County Government of Kakamega Boosts Agribusiness Through Butere Poultry Hatchery.

Aligned with H.E. Governor Fernandes Barasaโ€™s agenda on food security and wealth creation, the recently commissioned Butere Poultry Hatchery is set to empower farmers to turn poultry farming into a thriving enterprise.
Today, Chief Officer for Agriculture, Mr. Emmanuel Kariuki, led the Department of Livestock in issuing 700 day-old chicks to three community groups โ€” Ebenezer Lubanga Disabled Group in Matungu, Abalbao Women Group, and Emusaka Youth Bunge Group in Butere Sub-county.
The solar-powered hatchery targets to hatch between 12,000 and 100,000 eggs weekly, with chicks distributed free of charge to eligible groups vetted by ward-level committees across the county. This initiative underscores the Countyโ€™s commitment to empowering farmers, enhancing livelihoods, and advancing Kakamegaโ€™s agricultural transformation.
