COUNTY INSPECTS WATER PROJECTS IN BUTERE SUBCOUNTY

The County Government of Kakamega has today inspected the ongoing construction of the Firatsi Water Treatment Unit (CFU) in Butere Subcounty, a key water infrastructure project that will serve as a water treatment point where river water will be abstracted, purified and pumped to an elevated steel tank then to households and institutions across the subcounty.
Speaking during the inspection, Chief Officer for Water, Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resources Dr. Mariam Were noted that the project is aimed at improving access to safe and clean water in the region while strengthening the county’s water supply infrastructure.
The project comprises construction of the Compact Filtration Unit (CFU), installation of solar panels to lower its operational cost. The full scope of works is expected to be completed within six months.
During the inspection tour, Dr. Mariam Were also inspected status of Emukhura Spring and Simbio City Borehole to assess their operational status and identify measures to improve water supply to surrounding communities. The inspection team further explored plans to extend water connectivity to Ikalikha Dispensary, an initiative expected to improve access to clean water for patients, healthcare workers and the neighbouring community.
