GOVERNOR BARASA ENGAGES IKOLOMANI RESIDENTS ON DEVELOPMENT AND ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT.

H.E. Governor Dr. Fernandes Barasa, FCPA, OGW, today held a public engagement forum with residents of Iremele area in Idakho South Ward, Ikolomani Sub-County.

The Governor had a fruitful conversation with church leaders, opinion leaders, boda boda operators, and women and youth groups. The meeting provided a platform for residents to present their views, priorities, and development needs, while the Governor highlighted his administration’s ongoing and planned development programmes across the ward, the sub-county, and Kakamega County.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Barasa highlighted his administration’s key investments in infrastructure and social services aimed at improving the livelihoods of residents. He cited the upgrading of road networks, the construction of Irechelo and Ikhulili ECDE centres, the ongoing construction of Shichinji ECDE Centre, the upcoming commissioning of Chali Kasinde Bridge, and the completion of Lidambitsa Modern Market as flagship projects that are enhancing access to essential services, improving connectivity, and stimulating local economic growth.

He also announced that the County Government will next month roll out the issuance of KSh 60 million social grants to support organised community groups across Kakamega County. Under the programme, each of the 60 wards will receive KSh 1 million to empower women, youth, and other organised groups through income-generating activities, strengthen community enterprises, and improve household livelihoods.

On the sidelines of the engagement, Governor Barasa visited the family of the late Mwalimu Filiminus Ngaira at their home, where he paid tribute to a dear friend, supporter, and respected scholar whose life of learning and service left a lasting legacy. The Governor conveyed his condolences to the family and honoured Mwalimu Ngaira’s contribution to the society. May his soul continue resting in eternal peace.

The Governor was accompanied by Members of County Assembly led by Idakho South MCA Hon. Stephen Mukhala, the Executive led by CECM for Health Services Dr. Livingston Imbayi, and other officials from the national and county governments.
