GOVERNOR BARASA ESTABLISHING LINKAGES FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN KAKAMEGA COUNTY

Kakamega Governor H.E FCPA Fernandes Barasa led a Kenyan Delegation at the opening ceremony of the United Nations (UN) High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HPLF) and ECOSOC, at the UN Headquarters in New York City, USA on Monday.

The theme for this year’s forum is “Accelerating the recovery from (COVID-19) and the full implementation of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 at all levels.” It emphasizes the urgency of tackling the adverse effects of COVID-19 Pandemic and ensuring the successful realization of SDGs over this decade.

During the forum, particular attention will be given to trends and policies related to specific SDGs including those touching on Clean Water and Sanitation, Affordable and Clean Energy as well as Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure. Others include Sustainable Cities and Communities, and Partnerships for the Goals. The interconnections between these goals and their linkages to other objectives will be explored.

The Six-Point agenda for sustainable development of Kakamega County is intricately intertwined with these SDGs and such forums play a crucial role in shaping and advancing the county’s objectives. Furthermore, the Governor will use this forum to establish global linkages that will positively impact the people of Kakamega, the Green Jewel.
