GOVERNOR BARASA LEADS BULLFIGHTING FANS AT 4TH EDITION EXTRAVAGANZA

H.E. Dr. Fernandes Barasa, FCPA, OGW, today joined thousands of bullfighting fans, residents and cultural enthusiasts at the 4th edition of the Bullfighting Extravaganza held at Murhanda Grounds in Murhanda Ward, Shinyalu Sub-County.
The event delivered a thrilling display of strength, skill and competition as some of Kakamega’s finest bulls went head-to-head before an enthusiastic crowd. Governor Barasa said his administration has elevated bullfighting from a traditional pastime into a competitive and monetised sporting activity that creates income opportunities for bull owners while preserving and showcasing Kakamega’s rich cultural heritage.
Governor Barasa awarded 20 participating bull owners KSh400,000 in cash prizes, saying the rewards recognise the talent, investment and effort of bull owners while strengthening the economic value of the sport. Through the Department of Trade and Tourism, the County Government continues to promote bullfighting as part of Kakamega’s cultural and tourism agenda.
The extravaganza has grown steadily over the years, with the inaugural edition held at Malinya Grounds, the second at Solyo Grounds and the third at Lurambi before the fourth edition moved to Murhanda. The cultural sport continues to provide a platform for communities to celebrate and preserve their heritage while supporting local enterprise and bringing residents together.
Also present were members of the County Executive led by CECM for Education Dr. Benard Amwayi and his Trade Counterpart Mr. Godfrey Owori, other senior county officers, local leaders, bull owners and passionate fans.
