GOVERNOR WARNS AGAINST OVERCHARGING PATIENTS

Governor Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya today warned staff at Kakamega County Referral hospital against engaging in corrupt practices and misusing their positions to undermine revenue collection by the institution.

“I have received information from the public that patients are being directed for CT-Scan services in private clinics when our own hospital offers similar services at lower charges,” he said. He directed the CEC Member for Health Services, Madam Rachel Okumu to crack the whip and ensure the errant staff are dismissed forthwith.

The Governor also directed the CECM to benchmark on charges levied by other referral hospitals including Moi Referral and Kenya National Hospital and ensure that Kakamega Referral Hospital charges are harmonised accordingly.

Governor Oparanya who was speaking at a well attended thanks-giving rally at Emabole primary school in Butere sub county in honour of his recent election as Council of Governors chairman reiterated his commitment to successful implementation of devolution in the country.

He was accompanied by First Lady H.E. Priscilla Oparanya, Mrs. Carolyne Ambetsa Oparanya and several well wishers and friends who organized the thanks giving ceremony.

The event was attended by among others Bungoma Governor, H.E. Wycliffe Wangamati, the deputy Governor, H.E. Philip Kutima, Senator Clephas Malala, senators, MPs, MCAs, the chairperson of the County Public Service Board, Mrs. Rodah Masaviru, board members, CEC Members, the County Secretary and Head of Civil Service, Madame Jacinta Aluoch Odhiambo, Chief Officers and Advisors.
