INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL-CHILD MARKED IN KERICHO COUNTY

Kakamega County First Lady H.E Prof. Janet Kassily Barasa and fellow LREB First spouses joined Kenya’s First Lady H.E. Mama Rachel Ruto in celebrating the 2023 International Day of the Girl-Child in Kericho County themed “Invest in Girls’ Rights: Our Leadership, Our Well-being”.

In her speech, Mama Rachel Ruto lauded LREB leadership for putting in place interventions that seeks to address triple threat and promote the rights of the girl-child.

On her part, H.E Prof. Janet Kassily Barasa called for a multi-sectoral approach in promoting the rights of the girl-child and addressing pressing issues of triple threat.

Among the interventions Prof. Kassily proposed for consideration include; implementing and advocating for policies and programmes that promote gender equality empowerment of the girl-child, enforcing and strengthening child protection laws, enacting and enforcing anti-discrimination laws, supporting menstrual hygiene management, promoting HIV awareness campaigns and providing counselling and enhancing support towards reduction of HIV stigma and bringing the perpetrators to book.

The event was attended by LREB Governors, Members of Parliament, CECMs and other key Partners led by UNICEF.
