KAKAMEGA COUNTY GOVERNOR’S CUP TO KICK OFF IN AUGUST

Kakamega County is set to host the second edition of the Governor’s Cup Bonanza; to identify and nurture talent and to promote sportsmanship and social cohesion in the County.

In a briefing to Members of the Fourth Estate Friday morning at Bukhungu Stadium Kakamega, the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Social Services, Sports, Youth, Gender and Culture Mr Mophat Mandela said the tournament will feature Football (men and women), Rugby (men), Netball (women), Volleyball (men and women) and will be conducted in three phases starting from the Ward level.

“The registration will take place from 1st – 31st July 2023 followed with Ward competitions on the 21st to 27th of August; the ward stage will be preceded by the Sub-County contest before the penultimate County Bonanza that will take place on 28th, December 2023 – 1st January 2024,” Mr Mandela explained.

The tournament that is aligned to H.E FCPA Governor Fernandes Barasa’s Social Development pillar seeks to develop a database for sportsmen and women with an aim of tracking them in addition to exposing the talented ones to the sports market.

The CECM also unveiled a 12 member team that will ensure proper coordination and smooth running of the tournament in their respective Sub-Counties.

He was flanked by Chief Officer Ms Vivienne Ayuma and other Senior officers.
