KAKAMEGA HOSTS SENATE TEAM ON REVENUE REFORM DRIVE

A delegation from the Senate ICT Committee led by the Senator for Nandi, Hon. Samson Cherargei visited Kakamega on Wednesday as part of an ongoing oversight mission on county revenue systems. The team which is conducting an inquiry focused on ensuring that counties adopt integrated and efficient systems for improved revenue collection and management began its tour on Monday in Narok and Kisii and is set to proceed to Nandi.
During the engagement, the senators emphasized the need for counties to automate all revenue systems to enhance efficiency, transparency and accountability. They advised county governments to seal existing loopholes that hinder effective revenue collection, noting that integrated digital systems are key to addressing operational challenges and boosting sustainable revenue growth.
County officials raised concerns over persistent connectivity challenges that affect digital revenue systems; and appealed to the legislators to help fast-track settlement of pending funds owed to counties under the former National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF).
CECM for Finance, Budget, Economic Planning, ICT, e-Government & Communication, Mr. Benjamin Andama, who represented Governor Fernandes Barasa reaffirmed the county’s commitment to strengthening its revenue systems through automation and integration. He highlighted ongoing efforts to improve accountability and efficiency while aligning with national best practices to enhance service delivery.
Present were Health Services CECM Dr. Livingston Imbayi, ICT Chief Officer Mr. Suleiman Wanakeya, KCRA Chief Revenue Administrator Eng. Joseck Maloba and the Director ICT Mr. Chrisantus Odongo among others.
