KAKAMEGA PARTICIPANTS FLAGGED OFF FOR EALASCA FESTIVAL
Kakamega County has dispatched a contingent of 90 athletes to represent Kenya in this year’s East Africa Local Authorities Sports and Cultural Association (EALASCA) Festival, which officially kicked off today, Monday, at Mbaraki Stadium in Mombasa County.
The County Chief Officer for Sports and Youth Affairs Mr. Lawrence Mukoyani, presided over the flag-off ceremony on behalf of H.E. Governor Fernandes Barasa and reaffirmed the county government’s commitment to supporting the athletes as they represent both the county and the nation on an international stage.
“This is an opportunity for you to showcase Kakamega’s sporting prowess. It reflects the Governor’s sports development agenda, which aims to create a conducive environment for sportsmen and women to nurture their talents,” said the Chief Officer.
The EALASCA Festival features a wide range of activities, including track and field events, football, tug of war, volleyball, netball, darts, indoor games, as well as choir and cultural performances.
The Kakamega team will join participants from all 47 counties to form a unified Kenyan delegation, competing against teams from other East African countries.
Siaya Governor H.E James Orengo officiated the opening ceremony in his capacity as the KICOSCA patron, a baton he received from outgoing patron and Kakamega Governor H.E Dr. FCPA. Fernandes Barasa.
