ETENJE SET FOR WATER BOOST AS COUNTY LAUNCHES MAJOR SUPPLY PROJECT

Residents of Etenje Ward in Mumias West Sub-County are set to benefit from improved access to clean and safe water following the official site handover of the Etenje Community Water Project.
The exercise was conducted today by the County Executive Committee Member for Water, Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change, Ms. Peninah Mukabane, who led officials from the department in commissioning the start of works at St. Luke’s Ihonje Secondary School.
Speaking during the event, Ms. Mukabane noted that the project underscores the county government’s commitment to enhancing water access across Kakamega County.
She highlighted that the scope of works will include raising of a 2.5-kilometre main pipeline, installation of a new submersible hybrid pump, and setting up a solar unit at St. Luke’s Ihonje Senior School. Additionally, the project will see the construction of a water kiosk at Etenje Market and the installation of a 7-kilometre HDPE pipeline distribution network to serve both Etenje and Bukaya areas.
The CECM emphasized that upon completion, the project is expected to benefit at least 1,200 households by providing reliable access to clean and safe water, significantly improving livelihoods and public health in the area.
She, further, reiterated that the initiative aligns with Governor Fernandes Barasa’s development agenda on water and sanitation, which seeks to connect as many households as possible to water supply under the “Amatsi khumuliango” programme.
The project is scheduled for completion within six months, marking a significant milestone in the County’s efforts to expand water infrastructure and ensure sustainable access to this essential resource for residents.
Also present was the area MCA, Hon. Eddie Obwaka, the school principal, Mr. Lazarus Makokha, and the sub-county administrator.
