KAKAMEGA RECEIVES MULTIAGENCY HEALTH REGULATORY BODIES

The County Government of Kakamega, through the Department of Health Services, today received a delegation from various health regulatory bodies to assess and support health facilities across the county.

The multiagency team comprises the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC), Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB), the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK), and Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB). The team is in the county to review the quality of care in health facilities, with a focus on maternal and child health services. The visit is expected to inform both the national and county governments on appropriate interventions and recommendations to improve healthcare services.

Speaking during the entry meeting, CECM for Health Services, CPA Livingstone Imbayi, welcomed the team and highlighted the efforts initiated by Governor Fernandes Barasa under the quality healthcare pillar to improve healthcare services for residents of Kakamega County.

CECM Imbayi, further, noted that the county is expected to deploy 265 newly recruited health workers across its health facilities following the recently concluded recruitment process.

Chief Officer for Medical Services, Dr. David Alilah, said the county has invested heavily in health infrastructure, highlighting modern maternity wards at Likuyani, Lumakanda, Malava, Matungu and Butere Sub-County hospitals.

He, further, noted that construction of maternity theatres is ongoing at Khwisero, Iguhu and Shamakhubu hospitals.

Chief Officer for Public Health, Mrs. Rose Muhanda, highlighted the role of Community Health Promoters in encouraging expectant mothers to attend antenatal care, noting that increased ANC awareness has contributed to improved health outcomes in the county.

Also present were Dr. Willis Ochieng, a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist from KMPDC; Director of Medical Services Dr. Stephen Wandei; and County Reproductive Health Coordinator Beverly Wambani.
