KAKAMEGA STUNS OPPONENTS TO STORM INTO KYISA FINALS

Kakamega County volleyball teams have qualified for the finals of this year’s Kenya Youth Intercounties Sports Association (KYISA) games. The men’s team sailed through after a convincing 3-0 (27 – 25, 25 – 21, 25 – 19) win over favourites and last year’s finalists Nyandarua to set up a rematch with defending champions Trans Nzoia County who survived a scare from Uasin Gishu in the other semi final contest dubbed great rift derby. Kakamega and Trans Nzoia faced off at the pool stage where the latter snatched a narrow 3-2 win after 5 sets of play.

Despite loosing the second and fourth sets, the ladies came back strongly to clinch the most important set, 17-15, stopping a determined Busia County team from advancing. The green jewels will square it out with Uasin Gishu County in the final at the Chuka University grounds.

In ladies football final, Makueni County will battle out with hosts Tharaka Nithi while in the men’s category, it will be a derby pitting Homabay with Migori County. Siaya County will take on Makueni in the ladies basketball final.
