KAKAMEGA TO REAP FROM INTEGRATED NATURAL RESOURCE MANAGEMENT PROGRAM

The Governor H.E. FCPA Fernandes Barasa, during a courtesy call on him at the County Headquarters by lead officials from the National Government, FAO and IFAD, has welcomed the Integrated Natural Resource Management Program which seeks to ensure sustainable management of natural resources and hence realize his plan on improving livelihoods through food security, wealth creation and infrastructure development for the people of Kakamega County.

This Government-Donor funded program will be spearheaded by IFAD, FAO, Council of Governors, Ministries of Agriculture, Interior Affairs, National Treasury and the State Department for Forestry.

The team, led by county officials, later sampled the youths in agribusiness’ animal fodder production project at the showground in Shinyalu Sub-County, the Khwisero Smart Dairy Farm and the county heritage – Misango Hills in Khwisero Sub-County.

Present at the meeting were representatives of the partners; Titus Arunga of FAO, IFAD’s Mariatu Kamara, the Country Director and Chief Engineer Laban Kiplagat from the National Government. County officials included CECMs Benjamin Andama (Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Cooperatives), Peninah Mukabane (Water, Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change), Dr Bonface Okoth (Education, Science and Technology), Dr Mariam Barasa (Lands, Housing, Urban Areas and Physical Planning), County Secretary Dr Lawrence Omuhaka and Chief Officers.
