KAKAMEGA TOWN ON THE TRACK TO ATTAIN CITY STATUS
Deputy Governor Prof Philip Kutima has expressed confidence that soon Kakamega town will be elevated to a city status.
He said the County Government has put in place measures to ensure the town complies with the requirements for a city status.
“We have put in places measures and programmes that if achieved Kakamega town will be ready to be elevated to a city status,” said Prof Kutima.
He noted that some of the measures in place include; improving road network, upgrading and equipping medical facilities, provision of clean and piped water and other amenities.
The Deputy Governor said the County Government has achieved a lot in improving road network, connected piped water and maintained cleanness in the town.
“We are constructing a level six hospital which will be the biggest in this region. We have equipped other hospitals in readiness of the town achieving a city status,” he said.
Prof Kutima said the County Government is also in the process of repossessing idle plots.
Speaking during a meeting with traders in his office, the Deputy Governor said all legal procedures will be followed to see to it that the plots are repossessed and allocated to other people to be developed.
βWhen we raise the standards, we make the County attractive to investors and this will positively impact the economy of the County,β said Kutima.
