KENYA NATIONAL TOURISM CULTURAL AND FOOD FESTIVAL COMMENCES IN KAKAMEGA

Kakamega County Deputy Governor H.E Ayub Savula on Thursday graced the opening ceremony of the Kenya National Tourism, Cultural and Food Festival themed “Embracing our Culture, Tourism and Food Diversity for Social Economic Development” at Bukhungu Stadium Kakamega, on behalf of H.E FCPA Fernandes Barasa, the Governor Kakamega County.

In his speech, the Deputy Governor said the County Government is cognizant of the rich cultural heritage within the County and is working with the National Government through the National Museums of Kenya and other key stakeholders to document and designate County heritage sites such as Nabongo Shrines, Mawe Tatu Hills, Misango Hills and Mikai stones and caves among others.

The DG noted that the same has been incorporated into the 2022- 2027 County Intergrated Development Plan (CIDP) strategic plan to develop and safeguard the sites with an aim of creating wealth in line with the Governor’s manifesto.

Principal Secretary for Tourism Mr. John Olultuaa assured that the National Government will continue supporting the County to promote both local and international tourism and conserve the attraction sites with an aim of creating employment opportunities locally.

Costa Rica Ambassador to Kenya Her Excellency Giovanna Valverde called on the need for countries to adopt measures that will ensure the forest cover is protected to address the adverse effects of global warming. Further she assured that the Republic of Costa Rica will advance bilateral talks to explore tourism and cultural diversity in Kenya.
