KISIP II DELEGATION PAYS COURTESY CALL TO CECM LANDS.
A delegation of National government officers coordinating the Kenya Informal Settlements Improvement Project Phase Two (KISIP II) this afternoon paid a courtesy call to the Kakamega County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Lands, Housing, Urban Areas and Physical Planning, Ms. Angela Silima.
The team, led by Ms. Jeriot Maina, informed the CECM that their mission in Kakamega is to validate the number of informal settlements across the county as part of a national exercise to establish a comprehensive database of informal settlements in Kenya.
During their visit, the officers noted that they will be collecting data in several settlements within Kakamega, including Kambi Somali, Mjini, Amalemba, Lukoye, and Shibale, among others. The information will feed into a national database that will guide planning, policy development, and resource allocation aimed at upgrading living conditions in informal settlements.
Ms. Silima welcomed the delegation and assured them of the county government’s full support in accessing relevant data and engaging local stakeholders. She emphasized that the exercise will be a major step towards improving housing and infrastructure in underserved areas within Kakamega.
Ms. Silima added that the County Government of Kakamega is committed to supporting initiatives that uplift the lives of residents, particularly those living in informal settlements. She further added that this data will help in better understanding the scope of the challenge and design sustainable interventions.
The KISIP II initiative, implemented in collaboration with the national government and development partners, seeks to enhance tenure security, infrastructure, and services in informal settlements across the country.
