LREB FIRST LADIES CHAMPION FOR JUVENILES NUTRITION

The First Lady of Kakamega County H.E Prof. Janet Kassily Barasa on Thursday attended and participated in the inception meeting of the Nurturing Care for Early Childhood Development (ncfecd) Smart Start initiative for Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB) Counties.

The discussions centered around Overview of the Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) and Child Welfare Situations in the region, Experiences, Opportunities for Investment and Implemention of Nurturing Care for Early Childhood Development in LREB.

The inception meeting is aimed at sensitizing County leadership on ncfecd and sharing experiences on Smart Start Model in the LREB counties. The five components of ncfecd are: Good health, Adequate nutrition, Safety and security, Opportunities for early learning and Responsive care giving. These ensures the 1000 days window of the child are of good quality and inspiring to the growing minds of small children in line with H.E FCPA Governor Fernandes Barasa’s pillars on Health and Education.

There is therefore the need to anchor into law the Offices of the First Ladies to enable them participate fully in community development in order to make this and other initiatives a success.

The inception meeting saw the passing on of the Nurturing Care Torch from Siaya First Lady H.E Bett Orengo to her Kisumu counterpart H.E Dorothy Nyong’o and signing of a communique.
