The Ministry of Lands, Housing, Urban Areas and Physical Planning is in the process of developing a spatial plan that will guide the elevation of Malava and Butere towns to Municipality status. This was announced by the CECM Hon. Robert Makhanu after commissioning Sabatia Bus park in Marama Central ward, Butere Sub-County on Friday. He said elevation of the two towns, currently classified as Urban centres, will attract funding from the World Bank through the Kenya Urban Support Program (KUSP).”Due to the distance covered by residents in search of services from the Land registry offices, the Government will also establish a Lands office in Mumias or Butere town/s to handle land issues from residents of the Southern region,” he added. Lugari or Likuyani Sub-Counties, he said, will also be home to the devolved land registry offices to serve the Northern region. The newly commissioned Sabatia bus park will serve Bus and Matatu operators as well as Bodaboda riders.Hon. Makhanu directed Public Service Vehicle (PSV) operators to join registered and recognized Sacco’s warning that licensing will only be done for registered vehicles and operators.”The Sacco’s will also be expected to provide their agents with uniforms and name tags for ease of identification,” he noted. The brief event was also attended by the Director of Physical Planning Mr. Stephen Chune, Butere Sub-County Administrator Madam Joyce Wafukho, Butere OCPD Mr. Alexander Makau who represented the area DCC, Senior Administrative Officer Mr. Hanningtone Maina, Ward Administrators and Community Area Administrators among others.
