NATIONAL MUSIC AND CULTURAL FESTIVALS KICK OFF

The 2023 edition of the National Kenya Music and Cultural Festivals kicked off on Friday at Wote Technical Training Institute in Makueni County marking the beginning of ecstatic performances in different genres of music and artistic performances including set pieces, African percussions, poems and dances among others.

Kakamega County is represented at the 96th edition by over one hundred artists who are set to compete in various categories notably solo performances, duets, trios, quartets and other group performances.

Some of the notable groups that are expected to put up a spirited contention of the title trophy are the dynamic Weremba Cultural Dancers from Navakholo, Matungu United as well as Eclipse group from Lugari Sub-County. Sigalagala National Polytechnic students will represent County institutions while the melodious Sifa Melodies will be making yet another important appearance for team Kakamega.

The County Executive Committee Member for Social Services, Sports, Youth, Gender and Culture Mr Mophat Mandela together with the Chief Officer for Social Services, Gender and Culture Ms Leah Shisia are expected to grace the national event, an appearance that will boost the morale of the County participants even further.

The fete is sanctioned by the National Government through the State Department for Culture and Heritage.
