NAVAKHOLO STAGES SUCCESSFUL GOVERNOR’S CUP WARD FINALS

Navakholo Sub-County successfully hosted Ward finals of the 2023 Kakamega Governor’s Cup at five venues in the Sub-County on Saturday.

The highlight of the day was an electrifying Bunyala Central Ward final encounter played at Navakholo Primary School grounds, between Nambacha FC Vs Sirigoi FC, a duel that was decided on post match penalties where the former converted four spot kicks against Sirigoi’s two to lift the Ward trophy.

Kakamega Deputy Governor H.E Ayub Savula who graced the match in the company Host MP Hon. Emmanuel Wangwe, said the Governor’s Cup fete presents a perfect platform for sportsmen and women to display their talents and skills in the respective sports disciplines being showcased.

In line with Governor Fernandes Barasa’s Social Development agenda, Hon. Savula stated, the extravaganza is an initiative aimed at exposing the young athletes to opportunities externally and revealed that the County finals will see the organizers invite scouts for talent spotting.

CECM for Social Services, Sports, Youth, Gender and Culture Mr Mophat Mandela on his part called for discipline and sportsmanship from the players as the teams proceed to the Sub-County level and ultimately the County Bonanza.

In the other Final matches, Bushiri Blue Stars were 2-1 victors over Ematiha while Eshironyanga FC overcame Imperial 3-0.

The match between Nyota Kali versus Musaga ended 5-4 in favour of Nyota Kali on penalty shootouts whilst Mungakha beat Mzalendo 3-0 in regular time to advance to the Sub-County level.

Ward Winners received Kshs 50,000 in addition to the trophy while the 1st Runners Up were handed Kshs 30,000 as the 2nd Runners Up bagged Kshs 20,000.

Mumias East Sub-County will hosts the Ward Finals tomorrow, Sunday at 10.00am.
