NEW HOPE FOR MATUNGU RESIDENTS AS EBUSAMBE BRIDGE PROJECT TAKES OFF.

Residents of Khalaba and Kholera wards in Matungu subcounty are set to benefit from improved connectivity following the official handover of the Ebusambe Bridge construction site, a project funded through the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) programme under the County Government of Kakamega.

The project, which includes construction of a 20-metre bridge and upgrading of 1.6 kilometres of road, is expected to be completed within six months. The initiative reflects the county government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and enhancing access to economic and social opportunities for communities across the county. Work on the project officially commenced today.

Speaking during the handover, CECM for Water, Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change, Mrs. Peninah Mukabane, directed the contractor to prioritize local labour, including persons living with disabilities, and to source construction materials locally to maximize benefits for residents. She noted that the project demonstrates the county government’s commitment to inclusive development and climate-resilient infrastructure that responds to community needs.
