PATIENTS BENEFIT FROM FREE SPECIALISED SURGICAL OUTREACH AT KAKAMEGA COUNTY GENERAL HOSPITAL.

H.E. Governor Dr. Fernandes Barasa has commended medical specialists from Operation International–USA and the County Government’s health team for successfully conducting a seven-day free specialised surgical outreach programme at the Kakamega County General and Referral Hospital.
The outreach brought together international and local medical experts to provide specialised surgical services to patients who could not afford the cost of treatment. So far, 165 patients have benefited from the surgeries, with an additional 20 procedures scheduled before the programme concludes.
During a visit to the hospital, Governor Barasa said 30 medical specialists from the United States, led by Dr. Ian Otinga, worked alongside 106 healthcare professionals from Kakamega County under the leadership of the hospital’s Medical Superintendent, Dr. Christian Lamba.
The Governor noted that patients from all 12 sub-counties of Kakamega, as well as neighbouring counties, benefited from the specialised procedures, including head and neck surgery, plastic surgery, craniofacial surgery, and general surgery.
Governor Barasa commended the medical teams for their dedication and commitment, saying the partnership demonstrates the County Government’s efforts to expand access to quality and affordable healthcare services.
He added that such collaborations are key in strengthening specialised healthcare delivery while ensuring that vulnerable patients receive life-changing treatment without the burden of high medical costs.
The Governor further appreciated Operation International–USA and other healthcare partners for their continued support in improving healthcare outcomes for residents.
