STAKEHOLDERS HOLD TALKS ON AFFORDABLE HOUSING PROJECT

The Department of Lands, Housing, Urban Areas and Physical Planning on Wednesday hosted a team from the State Department for Housing and Urban Development – Affordable Housing Project Delivery at Diamond Rock Hotel, Kakamega to discuss areas of collaboration between the County Government of Kakamega and the National Government on delivery of affordable housing.

The delegation’s team leader Mr. Patrick Sitima said that following a Presidential directive, Kakamega County Government should identify land for construction of 10,000 housing units for Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) and 20,000 units for the County Government.

The in-charge CEC Member Mrs. Peninnah Mukabane reiterated the importance of Affordable Housing Project (AHP) saying it touches on two of H.E Governor Fernandes Barasa’s agenda on poverty reduction and improvement of social welfare.

She underscored the importance of housing project since the County already has a very high demand for houses and hotel industry and assured the delegation of Kakamega’s commitment to implement the project by making land available for construction.

The meeting was also attended by senior Officers from both levels of Government as well as MMUST.
